About the film.

It started on Prickly Mountain.

This unexpected hotspot for innovation of all kinds, hidden in a valley otherwise famous for its ski resorts and golf courses, is emblematic of the free spirit and back-to-the-land ethos that attracts visitors and transplants to Vermont. Using in-depth interviews with key characters and blending archival photos with modern architectural video to unpack the history and impact of the design/ build movement, the film provides the viewer with an immersive experience of design/ build- both in its legacy and process.

It wasn’t until filmmaker Allie became an adult that she really realized she grew up in an architecture movement. She set out in 2017 to create a feature documentary, only to discover that her journey mirrored the improvisational spirit of the design/build philosophy she sought to capture.
